[cold smoke] the party went out of hand | the kitchen is a mess and all the guests have left undressed | so now it's just the two of us | and a dozend dirty dishes || but let's not start to rub the stains | they will just get bigger, it will only make them bigger | let's never talk about tonight | and file it under failure || the men that you invited | were handsome & were strong and i just knew it would go wrong | the women here looked pretty, too | except when you got near them || let's share the last wine brotherly | tomorrow our clothes will smell of old jokes and cold smoke | so cheers to us and to what's lost | it was well worth losing || if you think i did you wrong | i ask for your forgiveness | and if you think you did me wrong | i am forgiving you||

this is one of those strange songs... the chord pattern of the verses developed about three years ago at a nerve bible rehearsal and since then i've been trying to find the right words and melody for it. actually the lyrics were supposed to go in a totally different direction, but on some recent hung-over morning it became "cold smoke". the line "the women here looked pretty | except when you got near them" is a quote from dracula and the drum sample is from "gone again" by the indigo girls. by the way: contradictory to what you might conclude from the lyrics i'm really an enrichment for every party!
